A permanent residence permit (in some countries also referred to simply as “permanent residence”) is a status granted to foreigners who meet certain conditions and wish to stay in a given country indefinitely, without the need to renew their residence permit. It is a form of long-term stay that offers broad rights, including the right to work, access to healthcare, education, and the possibility of applying for citizenship.
Conditions for obtaining a permanent residence permit:
Each EU country has its own specific regulations. In Poland, you may be granted a permanent residence permit if:
- You are the child of a foreigner who has been granted a permanent residence permit or an EU long-term resident permit;
- You are the child of a Polish citizen and are under their parental care;
- You are of Polish origin and intend to settle permanently in the territory of the Republic of Poland;
- You are married to a Polish citizen, and this marriage has lasted for at least 3 years before the date you applied for a permanent residence permit;
- You are a victim of human trafficking as defined in Article 115 § 22 of the Polish Penal Code;
- Immediately before submitting your application, you have been residing continuously in the territory of the Republic of Poland for no less than 5, 10, or 4 years, depending on legally specified cases;
- You were granted asylum in the territory of the Republic of Poland;
- You hold a valid Polish Card (Karta Polaka) and intend to settle permanently in Poland.
